The Associate of Science in Turf Grass Science and Management at Pennsylvania State University provides students with the ability to plan and implement projects, manage finances and communicate effectively in industries that require knowledge of turfgrass. Penn State became a leader in turfgrass education as early as 1929 when they launched the first turfgrass program in the United States. The program is 61 credit hours and includes courses in biology, chemistry, ethics, weed control, insect pest management, and pesticides. The credits earned through the program, which is available online, may be used toward Golf Course Superintendents Association of America education points.

The Bachelor of Arts in History at Penn State World Campus offers a compelling vision of human activity with a unique analytical perspective. Students gain a unique perspective of culture, religion, art, politics, and war. Students learn to conceptualize an issue, research it, weigh evidence, make conclusions and present work in a compelling fashion. The program develops skills in writing, reading, source analysis, chronological reasoning and understanding complex causality. Students develop an understanding that history is not just an account of what happened but the result of a process of interpretation. The program requires 123 credit hours and all may be completed online.

The Graduate Certificate in Children’s Literature is designed for K-12 teaching professionals, librarians, children’s writers and illustrators who have a vested interest in literature for children. The program provides an understanding of how to engage children in reading as well as the exploration of children’s literature. It encourages professionals to learn about picture books, folklore, and myths. Students learn about how imagination is inspired in children as well as how to interpret picture books as an active, creative process.

The Master of Project Management at Pennsylvania State University World Campus demonstrates how project managers oversee all aspects of a project so that it flows seamlessly while meeting timelines, scope, and budget goals. It is an interdisciplinary graduate program that uses problem-based learning to provide an understanding of project management theory and practice. The program requires 30 credit hours and is available online. Students gain an understanding of commercial and procurement law, corporate and business strategy, cost control, planning, resource management, human relations, teams, and organizational theory.

Although Pennsylvania State University World Campus does not offer specific degree programs for high school students, dual enrollment is available for qualified high school students. All credits earned while in high school can be applied to degree programs at the university. Students who have completed their junior year are eligible for the program. They may take up to eight credits per semester with most students taking one or two courses per 16-week semester in addition to their high school coursework.

The Pennsylvania State University World Campus is the second largest in the Pennsylvania State University System with more than 20,000 students enrolled. Also known as Penn State Online, it is the online campus for the University which was launched in 1998 but continues the Penn State tradition of distance education that began in 1892. That was the year that Penn State launched one of the first correspondence programs in Pennsylvania with the goal of educating farmers who were unable to attend traditional classes.

When Penn State launched its online campus, they focused on the American Centre for Study of Distance Education in the College of Education developed by Professor Michael G. Moore. Then Vice-President Jim Ryan believed that online learning had significant potential and created a task force to study the potential of a major online initiative. The task force confirmed what Ryan believed and Moore assisted the school in setting up their online programs.

Pennsylvania State University World Campus Accreditation Details

Pennsylvania State University World Campus is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. This accreditation allows students to apply for federal financial aid and allows the degrees to be recognized nationwide. It also confirms that the programs offered meet or exceed criteria that indicate excellence in education. Business programs at the Penn State World Campus are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business while the Master of Public Administration program is accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration.

Pennsylvania State University World Campus Application Requirements

In order to apply for dual enrollment for high school students, applicants must provide an official high school transcript as well as official ACT or SAT scores. They must also provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or principal.

In order to apply for the Associate of Science in Turf Grass Science and Management or the Bachelor of Arts in History, applicants must hold a high school diploma and must provide official copies of their high school transcript. Applicants who have earned college credit after high school graduation must also submit official college transcripts from all schools attended.

In order to apply for the Graduate Certificate in Children’s Literature or the Master of Project Management, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Official GMAT scores must also be provided.

Pennsylvania State University World Campus Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for the Associate of Science in Turf Grass Science and Management as well as the Bachelor of Arts in History is $555 per credit hour for the first 59 hours. For 60 hours and above, tuition is $596 per credit hour. Tuition for the Graduate Certificate in Children’s Literature is $903 per credit hour. Tuition for the Master in Project Management program is $975 per credit hour.

Financial is available and all students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing the FAFSA not only makes students eligible for federal student aid but for scholarships offered through the school as well. Those who have been recently laid off from their job or are unemployed may qualify from the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program. Penn State also offers assistance to members of the military and veterans through grant-in-aid, the GI Bill, ROTC, and the Yellow Ribbon program.
