Drexel University is a large university that offers degree and certificate programs at the top three levels. Undergrads can choose from majors ranging from accounting and animation and visual effects to technology innovation management and virtual reality and immersive media. The university also offers students to pick from seven fields of study if they haven’t yet settled on a major, including media and business. These programs allow students to take introductory courses in that field until they pick a major. The Graduate College at Drexel University offers programs designed to meet the needs of students and to help them achieve success. Drexel offers 20 different fields of study for online graduate students too. Those with an interest in sports can major in either sport coaching leadership or sport management. The legal programs help students earn degrees in legal studies and cyberlaw and data security. Drexel also offers arts programs online, including a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing and a Master of Science (MS) in Arts Administration and Museum Leadership.

About Drexel University

Drexel University is a private university based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Established in 1891 by Anthony J. Drexel, it opened as the Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry. Students could choose from a wide range of programs and study subjects that helped them succeed in local jobs. It accepted both men and women and prepared them for working in and around Philadelphia. The school would become the Drexel Institute of Technology in the 1930s and then Drexel University in 1970. As part of its curriculum, it stresses the importance of practical learning. Many of its degree programs require that students do internships and other experiences in the field.

The main campus in the Drexel system is the University City Main Campus in Philadelphia. It also owns a Center City Campus and a Queen City Campus in Pennsylvania. A fourth campus is in Sacramento, California. Drexel also works with the Academy of Natural Sciences and offers programs for students through that academy. Drexel University Accreditation Details

Drexel University has regional accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). This is why Drexel can award financial aid packages that include government aid and aid from the university itself. Some of the programs and fields that students study have accreditation too, including physical therapy, law and nursing. That accreditation comes from organizations that include the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and American Bar Association (ABA).

Drexel University Application Requirements

All first-year students must meet any prerequisites established by each program. Those prerequisites usually include at least one year of science classes and up to three years of math classes. Students in creative programs often need to take English courses too, but those in science and research programs need to take advanced math and science classes. Drexel has a deadline of November 1 for all incoming freshmen. It requires that students get all their documents to the university by the middle of the month and that they complete the FAFSA by the beginning of February. Undergrads need to use the Drexel application and submit both official transcripts from their high schools and official test scores.

Graduate students will find that the university’s programs all have different requirements beyond simply filling out an online application. Each program can also set its own application deadline, which is usually around the beginning or middle of November. Students usually need to supply transcripts that show they have their bachelor’s degrees and that they took all prerequisites. They may need to submit one or more letters of recommendation and a resume too. Some Drexel graduate programs also ask for a writing sample. Students can submit most of the required information online, though they may need to submit other paperwork through the mail.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Drexel University undergrads pay fees of $150 per semester and a tuition rate of $1,114 per credit hour as a part-time student. Full-time undergrads pay fees of up to $790 per semester and a tuition rate of $16,958 a semester. Graduate students pay fees and a tuition rate based on the program or the school that offers that program. Part-time grad students pay fees of $140 per semester, while full-time grad students pay $280 in fees each semester. They also pay $1,265 per credit hour for all the classes they take.

Any student applying to Drexel University can also submit the FAFSA to see if the can take out loans and if they will receive grants. Loans include subsidized programs for undergrads and unsubsidized programs for graduate students. There are both Pell and supplemental grants for students too. Some of the scholarships for undergrads include merit-based programs and those who match any special interest programs. There are also 16 scholarships and fellowships for doctoral and graduate students. Though some programs only go to students in specific programs, others are open to anyone who can submit an application.
