Degrees and programs at Huntington University are offered in the areas of art, religion, business, chemistry, and communication, as well as education, English, and many other areas. The university’s sole doctoral program is the Doctor of Occupational Therapy. The university also has a dual enrollment option known as the High School Early Entry Program. Students must submit a special application to enter the program, as well as provide a recommendation from a school guidance counselor. The application costs $20 to submit, and students must also have their high school transcripts sent to the university’s Admissions Office. About Huntington University

Huntington University was founded in 1897 as Central College and was built by a Christian denomination known as the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. The university is located in Huntington, Indiana, and has around 1,300 students attending classes at its rural campus. The university has long offered a liberal arts curriculum with Bachelor of Philosophy, Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Science degrees offered in its earliest decades.

Students may participate in sports at the university in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as the Foresters. The official colors of the university are black and forest green. The university went through some lean times in the early part of the 1900s with enrollment dwindling due to the Great Depression. However, the G.I. Bill of the post-WWII era would allow enrollment to grow again.

Huntington University Accreditation Details

Huntington University was first accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1961. That organization eventually became the Higher Learning Commission, and the university would maintain its accreditation in the decades after its initial recognition. The university would also join the Associated Colleges of Indiana in 1971. That organization would eventually become the Independent Colleges of Indiana.

Some of the additional programmatic accreditations earned by the university include those from the Council on Social Work Education, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and the Indiana State Board of Nursing. Education degrees are accredited by the Indiana Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The university is also a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and is authorized to operate as a not-for-profit organization by the State of Indiana.

Huntington University Application Requirements

To enter Huntington University as a first-year student, applicants will first submit the official application online. High school students should make sure their curriculum adheres to the university’s recommended program of classes, which includes two years of college preparatory mathematics and four years of English. Students will also need to send an application fee of $20 and their official high school transcripts and standardized test scores.

Minimum application requirements include having an average GPA of 2.3 for all college preparatory classes. Students who don’t qualify for admission are encouraged to attend another accredited institution of higher learning to prove their suitability for college-level work, after which a transfer opportunity may be available. Students from other countries where English is a second language must prove English language proficiency when they apply.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Total annual costs for students attending Huntington University as undergraduate students come to $35,600. Full-time annual tuition is $25,956, and total room and board charges are $8,754 for the year. Students who enroll in part-time study will pay $444 per credit up to 5.5 hours and $782 per credit for six through 11.15 hours. The university also charges overload tuition of $782 per credit hour for every credit above 17. Summer tuition is billed at $389 per credit hour, and summer internships are $185 per credit hour.

Graduate students pay a per-credit-hour charge based on their program. Rates vary from $400 per credit hour for the Master of Arts in Ministry program to $822 per credit hour for the Master of Physician Assistant Studies. Students in the occupational therapy doctoral program will pay between $21,500 and $38,973 with the rate depending on the student’s year of study.

Financial aid is available to students who attend Huntington University, and students should submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if they want to qualify for federal student loans and opportunities to participate in federal grant programs or student employment. The Office of Financial Aid at Huntington University handles student financial aid awards and requires that students complete their FAFSA by the deadline of April 15.
